Women, youth and communities shaping SDG progress in Homa Bay, Kenya

In Homa Bay County, inclusive governance is helping turn the Sustainable Development Goals into practical county-level action.

Led by the County Government of Homa Bay, with support from UN Kenya through UN Women, UNICEF and UNDP under the UN Joint Programme on SDG Localisation, the initiative is strengthening gender-responsive governance, SDG-aligned budgeting, climate adaptation and community-led development.

The programme supports the meaningful participation of women, youth and marginalised groups in county planning and budgeting processes, helping ensure local priorities are reflected in development decisions.

Through stronger institutions, community engagement and more inclusive planning, Homa Bay is showing how SDG localisation can support practical progress towards the 2030 Agenda.
