Kenya is implementing the Women’s Integrated Cancer Screening programme, a government-led approach that brings cancer and non-communicable disease screening into one accessible health visit.
Led by the Ministry of Health, with support from UN Kenya through WHO, the programme integrates screening for breast and cervical cancers with checks for diabetes, hypertension and mental health conditions. It is being piloted in Kenya, Côte d’Ivoire and Zimbabwe.
In Kenya, the programme is being implemented in Bungoma and Nyandarua counties, with a target of reaching 10,000 women. So far, 3,767 women have been screened, with 686 abnormal findings detected, helping women access early intervention and treatment.
By making screening easier, more affordable and closer to communities, the programme is helping strengthen early detection, improve survival and support better quality of life for women.
