Young people in Kenya continue to face barriers to decent work, including unemployment, underemployment and working poverty. The Livestock Feed Commercialisation Project is helping address this by supporting young women and men to build sustainable businesses in the animal feed and livestock sector.
Implemented with support from UN Kenya through FAO, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, the project uses a market systems approach to identify and address barriers that limit inclusive growth in the livestock feed market.
The project works with government institutions, private sector actors, young people and civil society to create stronger pathways into employment and enterprise. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all model, it responds to the needs, capacities and aspirations of young people already working in, or seeking to enter, the livestock feed and livestock sectors.
Through coaching, mentoring and co-designed business solutions, the project is helping young entrepreneurs strengthen their skills, grow small enterprises and access more dignified work opportunities.
