In Kapkatei village, Elgeyo Marakwet County, Edwin Mosop is helping protect girls from Female Genital Mutilation by working with men, boys and community members to challenge harmful social norms.
After training by the Centre for Enhancing Democracy and Good Governance, Edwin now leads male engagement efforts in his community. His work has helped protect more than 200 girls from undergoing FGM, showing how local leadership can help shift attitudes and safeguard girls’ rights.
Implemented with support from UN Kenya through UNFPA, and funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation, the initiative works with community champions to engage men and boys as allies, promote positive masculinity and support efforts to eliminate FGM.
Edwin’s story shows that ending FGM requires trusted voices within communities, sustained dialogue and collective action to ensure every girl can grow up safe, learn and make choices about her future.
